Andrew Waite

Program Director

Andrew Waite has been heavily involved in music education on Prince Edward Island within both the public and private sectors for over 10 years. Andrew received his Bachelor of Music from the University of Prince Edward Island and his Bachelor of Music Education from Memorial University.

In addition to having worked for the Public Schools Branch, Andrew is also the owner/operator of a successful summer contemporary music camp (Island Rock Camps) as well as a private lesson studio. Island Rock Camps are in their 7th year and provide music education to over 100 students ages 9 – 18 during the summer.

Andrew’s private lesson studio for 2019-2020 provides lessons in guitar, bass, ukulele, piano,theory,  vocals, and songwriting for approximately 25 students weekly. In 2018, Andrew was a guest presenter at the inaugural symposium at Western University for Progressive Methods in Popular Music Education. 

Andrew has also released 2 award-winning solo albums, and has been an active member of the music industry regionally and nationally. His most recent album, Tremors, won Music PEI Rock Recording of the Year and has received airplay nationally from CBC. He has performed his original music across the country, and has also toured as a session guitarist with many other songwriters.

Nikki Waite

Program Director

Nikki received her Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Prince Edward Island, and has worked as a tenured teacher for the Public Schools Branch since 2011. Last year, she completed her Master of Music Education from Memorial University, including a thesis which investigated the barriers that exist on PEI preventing innovation in contemporary music education within the public schools. 

During the past number of years, Nikki has taken an active role in management within the music industry. She has written successful grant applications for FACTOR (The Foundation Assisting Canadian Talent on Recordings), Music PEI, PEI Arts Grants, Skills PEI and MusiCounts. In addition to grant writing, Nikki also has experience working with social media marketing, radio marketing and print marketing.
